Abstract The structure formation of particles with induced dipoles dispersed in a viscous fluid, under spatially and temporarily uniform external electric or magnetic field, is investigated by means Brownian Dynamics simulations. Dipole–dipole interactions forces, excluded volume forces thermal fluctuations are accounted for. resulting structures characterized terms average orientation their inter-particle vectors (second Legendre polynomial), network structure, size particle clusters, anisotropy the gyration tensor every cluster existence (cluster) percolation. magnitude strength field fraction varied structural evolution system followed time. results show that characteristic timescale calculated from interaction only two also valid for collective dynamics many-particle In addition, range values we investigate influences deviations around behavior. main characteristics (number density branch-points thickness branches) mainly affected fraction. possibility 3D printing these systems explored.
